Privacy note

Privacy, in plain words.

Dear Someone (“we”) is run by Marlène Mutwa. This note explains what we collect and why.

What we collect

  • Your email address (and name, if you share it) when you join a mailing list or waitlist, or write to us.
  • What you write to us: a message, notes on the card game, or a story for New-ance.
  • A story or note you pin to The Wall, with the name you sign it with (or none). Marlène reads every one before it goes up. Once it's up, it is public: anyone visiting the site can read it.
  • Answers you type into the card game on this site stay in your own browser (local storage). We never receive them.

How we use it

Only for what you asked for: letters, launch news, or a reply. Notes on the card game help shape its next edition. A story is never shared on New-ance without your yes. A wall story only appears on The Wall, and only after it has been read. We never sell or rent your information.

Where it's kept

Everything you send through this site's forms and The Wall is saved in a private Google Sheet that only Marlène can open, and she gets a copy by email. Google stores it for us (Google Sheets and Google Apps Script), under Google's privacy policy.

While your own wall story or note waits to be read, a copy stays in your browser so you can still see it. It leaves your browser once it's up on the wall, or after 30 days if it doesn't go up.

Services we use

Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. The writing page embeds a Substack signup form, which is covered by Substack's privacy policy.

Your choices

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or ask us to see, correct or delete your data by writing to info.dearsomeone@gmail.com.

To take something you wrote off The Wall, write to us with its first few words and the name you signed it with, and we'll remove it.
